AI-Native Software Engineer (all genders)
We are seeking a seeking an outstanding AI-Native Software Engineer (all genders) who will be joining a world-class team and help build and automate the internal software and operations platform that keeps AITHYRA running — with a clear focus on AI-enabling our administrative and business workflows. When capacity allows, you will also contribute to scientific tooling that supports our researchers. At AITHYRA, we have embraced AI-assisted development as our standard way of building software — using tools like OpenCode, Claude Code, Codex, and other agentic coding environments. We are looking for an experienced software developer who is ready to take the next step: becoming an AI-augmented engineer who designs, orchestrates, and ships applications at a pace only possible when humans and AI agents work together.
As our AI-Native Software Engineer, your primary mission is to automate and AI-enable AITHYRA's internal operations - finance, HR, procurement, document handling, reporting, IT onboarding, and the countless administrative workflows that a fast-growing research institute depends on. You will design, build, and orchestrate AI-agent-driven pipelines that eliminate repetitive manual work and let our teams focus on science.
Reporting to Stephan Stadlbauer, Head of Scientific Computing, you will translate operational needs into containerized, self-contained services built with heavy AI-agent assistance. Supporting scientific projects and researcher-facing tools is a secondary focus, addressed when administrative automation priorities allow. You don't need to be an AI/ML researcher — but you must be fluent in modern software engineering and genuinely excited about leveraging AI coding agents to multiply your output.
Start date: flexible
Contract: full-time, 40/h week
Positions available: 1
Your Tasks
- Develop internal applications using AI-assisted development workflows (OpenCode, Claude Code, Codex, and similar agentic tools) - embracing the emerging discipline of AI-augmented engineering.
- Automate business processes end-to-end, designing AI agent pipelines that enable autonomous operations wherever possible - from document workflows to data processing to administrative tasks.
- Build and maintain containerized services: design multi-container Docker (Compose) stacks that are self-contained, talk via well-defined APIs (REST, MCP, GraphQL), and authenticate via OAuth.
- Create scientific interfaces and visualizations: develop user-friendly web interfaces to access internal databases, explore datasets, and display visualizations for researchers.
- Support other teams with their software infrastructure needs - for example, helping AI robotics teams deploy, manage, and maintain their application stacks.
- Implement and evolve the deployment infrastructure: maintain current Docker Compose-based deployments, and help evaluate and introduce container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes) for services that require high availability in the future.
- Write clean, well-documented, testable code - primarily in Python - while leveraging AI tools to accelerate development without sacrificing quality or maintainability.
- Stay at the frontier: continuously evaluate new AI coding tools, agent frameworks, and automation patterns, and bring best practices back to the team.
Your Profile
-
Education in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
-
Solid professional experience as a software developer.
-
Hands-on experience with or genuine enthusiasm for AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, OpenCode, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Codex).
-
Strong working knowledge of containerization - you build, ship, and debug Docker and Docker Compose stacks confidently.
-
Experience designing and consuming APIs (REST, GraphQL) and implementing authentication flows (OAuth/OIDC/SAML).
-
Familiarity with relational and/or document databases and the ability to build interfaces and visualizations on top of them.
-
A genuine passion for automation - you instinctively look for ways to eliminate repetitive work through scripting, agents, or workflow tools.
-
Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive attitude towards tackling diverse technical challenges in a fast-paced environment.
-
A strong desire to evolve into an AI-augmented engineer - someone who orchestrates AI agents, designs agentic workflows, and continuously pushes the boundary of what a single developer can deliver.
-
Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with technical and research teams.
Desired Skills:
- Experience with container orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker Swarm) for high-availability deployments.
- Familiarity with the Model Context Protocol (MCP) or similar agent-to-service communication standards.
- Experience building data visualizations or dashboards (e.g., Streamlit, Dash, Grafana, or custom web UIs).
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, Git-based workflows, and infrastructure-as-code practices.
- Exposure to front-end frameworks (React, Vue, or similar) for building internal web applications.
- Experience working with research scientists or in an academic/research environment.
- Familiarity with AI/ML concepts - not to train models, but to understand what your scientist colleagues are doing and what they need.
